CONGRATULATIONS WINTER GUARD!
The Winter Guard took home a first place trophy this weekend at the El Toro Winter Guard competition and beat a NHS school record by having the highest score ever in NHS Color Guard History!  Amazing job !!

ALL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC SENIORS: SENIOR PORTRAITS COMING UP SOON!
One of the traditions in Instrumental Music is taking senior portraits in formal concert attire. The Instrumental Music Senior Photo Shoot will be taking place on Sunday, 4/26 from 4:00-7:00pm . THESE PHOTOS ARE FREE AND A GREAT WAY TO CELEBRATE OUR SENIORS!  They will be included in our end-of-the-year slideshow, and each senior family will receive a copy as a “thank you” gift.

Students will need to wear their formal concert attire and bring their instruments with them as 501 will be locked. Parents/sibling/buddy photos will be allowed, time permitting. Please signup for your free photo session HERE.

  • WEAR your formal concert attire
  • BRING your instrument. Bring your instrument home on FRIDAY, as Room 501 will be locked during the photo shoot
  • CHECK IN in front of the NHS Theater
  • PARENTS/SIBLINGS/BUDDIES may also be included in the photo shoot, time permitting

SENIOR BABY PICTURES

Seniors! We would love to include each of you in the slideshow being presented at the Instrumental Music Awards taking place on Saturday, May 16th. If you did not have your senior photo taken at either the marching band or recent instrumental senior photo shoot, please submit a senior photo so you can be included in the slideshow! We are also looking for BABY PHOTOS! Please submit either or both photos by Wednesday, May 6th in order to have them included in the slideshow.  Submit photos here.  

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT SURVEY
We love our seniors and want to celebrate them! We will be highlighting seniors on our Instagram account (@northwoodinstrumental) with Senior Spotlights.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC ANNUAL BANQUET AND AWARDS

Please join us for the instrumental music awards and banquet,  Complimentary dinner for all instrumental music students which includes tacos, desserts and drinks.  Guests are welcome to attend the dinner at a cost of $20 per person.  Dinner will be served from 4 to 5 pm by the lunch tables.  The awards will be in the theater starting about 5:15 pm.  Guests are invited to attend the awards at no cost.  Please RSVP here so that we can get an accurate headcount for the food.  Thank you.  SIgn Up Here.

AUDITION INFORMATION

ALL AUDITION MUSIC CAN BE FOUND HERE

This is the current audition information for the 2026-2027 school year.

Auditions are NOT required for STRING ORCHESTRA or CONCERT BAND.  Only for students who wish to be in an upper level ensemble. 

Current students will have their auditions IN-CLASS during their current ensemble (Mrs. Tav/Mr. Case/Mr. Q will give you more info in class).

Incoming students will be auditioning on Saturday, May 16th by appointment at Northwood High School.  To schedule an INCOMING STUDENT AUDITION appointment, please fill out THIS FORM by Wednesday, April 15th.  All incoming students should register for either STRING ORCHESTRA or CONCERT BAND, and then we will place students after auditions over the summer.

String students – Please prepare the required audition music & the scale sheet
Wind Students – Please prepare the required audition music & a Bb Concert scale (play through your range/any tempo/any rhythm).
Percussion Students – Please prepare the required audition music for all three instruments – Marimba, Snare & Timpani.  You will also need to prepare the Bb Concert Scale (play through your range on marimba/any tempo/any rhythm)
Piano Students –Please play 2 minutes of the piece of your choosing, plus the required piano scale sheet.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – April 28th

Northwood and Portola will be doing a combined musical performances of music composed by George Gershwin including American in Paris and Rhapsody.  We need a few volunteers to help serve food and sell tickets at Portola High School.  Please sign up here.  Thank you.

2026 – 2027 TIMB BOARD & COMMITTEE CHAIRS

We are looking for a few parents to join the TIMB Board next year and/or serve on a committee position.  This is a great way to be involved with your student’s activities and have fun.  There are opportunities available for both the instrumental music program and marching band.  Please email TIMB.presdient@gmail.com to find out more!

2026 MARCHING BAND CAMP: SAVE THE DATES! 
It’s never too early to start thinking about Marching Band Camp! Online registration is now open and can be found  HERE.   All events will be held on campus at NHS. ALL students, and all levels of music experience, are welcome; please share with friends! BAND CAMP IS REQUIRED FOR ALL MARCHING BAND AND COLOR GUARD PARTICIPANTS.
